Before In the Garden Coffees began, we enjoyed coffee…

Then one day something amazing happened. While on a trip to Toronto, a friend and I had a life altering experience. We tasted fresh roasted coffee for the very first time.  When we returned to New York, the search was on for what we had tasted.

It was like searching for fine treasure.

But then…

A discovery was made when visiting a coffeehouse in Saratoga Springs, NY – fresh roasted specialty Colombian coffee.  That was the taste…  chocolatey, smooth and medium-bodied.  It was delightful!

The journeys back to the coffeehouse where they were roasting on premises turned into getting orders from friends and bringing back the “good stuff”.

We already had a prospering landscaping business going so we knew what it would take to begin another venture.

In the Garden Coffees felt like a good name:  a moment to rest, relax and rejuvenate…

It turns out…

The process of developing this business was very enjoyable.

We bought a roaster and equipment, learned to roast, secured a trademark, made connections with coffee importers, researched freshness and developed packaging – and the development goes on…

In March of 2005, there was one coffee roaster for sale on Ebay.  It was located in Fresno, California.  We looked at it online, we liked it and had it crated and shipped cross-country to Upstate New York.  We also bought all of their processing and packaging equipment.  It’s still the roaster we use today.

Through it all…

We started roasting in April of 2005 and the response has been amazing!  It is the most satisfying feeling in the world to get excellent coffee out to people who really appreciate it.

Roasting for you,

John, Rebecca and Ethan Guarino, In the Garden Coffees
